Social Media Director - Position Description & Duties
Promotes awareness of the purpose and actions of WI SHRM through ongoing communication efforts and branding initiatives using social media tools. Makes sure that HR Professionals, both within and external to SHRM, are fully informed of WI SHRM resources and activities by using existing and developing social media. Works closely with other Council members to ensure that the Council is portraying a consistent and professional image to its members and to the business community at large.

The State Council Director

  1. Serves as a voting member of WI SHRM. Attends and participates in all meetings of the Council
  2. Evaluates the Social Media landscape and decides what platforms will be good tools for WI SHRM
  3. Works to understand and develop an effective strategy for use of new media, giving serious consideration as to how this impacts the roles of the council’s Secretary, Membership Director, and Legislative Director
  4. Develop and maintain a cyberspace persona and become immersed in the culture and use of new media as a representative of the state council
  5. Work to educate other WI SHRM board members about the use of new media, both from a technical perspective and from a business approach
  6. Work to educate local SHRM chapters about the use of new media, both from a technical perspective and from a business approach
  7. Develop and implement a strategy to use new media in promoting and presenting the WI SHRM state conference. This includes advocating for blog panels, free conference wireless internet and maintaining the social media conference page
  8. Develop a relationship with SHRM to understand and promote SHRM’s position on social media
  9. Consult with other state council representatives to compare best practices on use on new media with respect to promoting the state council, state conference, and chapters
  10. Attend State Leadership Conferences to assure representation for this critical area of responsibility
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by State Director

  1. Must be a SHRM member in good standing. HRCI certification highly desirable
  2. Some experience as a chapter officer desired
  3. Appointed by the state council director
  4. Serves a one-year term beginning the first day of January and ending the last day of December. May be reappointed for two additional one-year terms for a total service of three years.
